Catch-up with ChangeKitchen this summer!

ChangeKitchen will be busy bees this summer – here’s just a selection of our activities, where you can enjoy some of our delicious food in the great outdoors!

Sunday 26 May – mac Birmingham Food Market -  Vegetarian Food Demo – FREE

To coincide with National Vegetarian Week (20-26 May) Birgit will be presenting two food demo’s at mac birmingham’s food market this weekend (28 May). They’ll take place at 12.30pm and 2.30pm and will focus on seasonal healthy lunches and seasonal smoothies and snacks.  You’ll also be able to enjoy the many artisan food stalls selling their seasonal goodies on the day!

Sunday 2 June – The Birmingham Big Green Lunch Event – FREE

The Big Lunch is an initiative started by the Eden Project that encourages people across the UK to come together for a few hours of food, friendship and fun! ChangeKitchen will be selling delicious vegan and vegetarian food on the day.

The event takes place at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens.

CK Pop Up &  three year  anniversary celebration! Friday 21 June

To celebrate our third anniversary our June pop-up will be an afternoon into evening affair. We’re currently finalising the details, but rest assured it will be a pop up like no other! Just watch this space for more details nearer the time!

 

Saturday 22 June – Martineau Gardens Storytelling Festival – 11am – 5pm

The Martineau Gardens Storytelling Festival returns for midsummer 2013. Enjoy a family-friendly day of storytelling, in the grounds of a beautiful community garden, presented by the Traditional Arts Team. There’s entertainment for every age group, arts and crafts for children, live music, plus incredible food from ChangeKitchen CIC.

May Popup Menu – Wild Garlic and Asparagus………..Friday 17 May – 7pm – 10pm

We’ve got a great menu for next weeks’ pop-up on Friday 17 May – 7pm -10pm (122 Pershore Street, B5 6PA)

Allium Ursinum – wild garlic to you and me and asparagus  will feature heavily on our menu this month – both for their seasonal flavours and Birgit’s passion for both ingredients at this time of year!

Here’s a sample of the menu – there’s much more besides!

  • Starter – Wild Garlic and Potato Soup
  • Main – Asparagus and Pea Risotto
  • Salad – Steamed Fennel with Wholegrain Mustard
  • Dessert – Raspberry Sorbet

We’ve now had to increase the price of our pop-up meals, starting this month, due to the price increase of ingredients, all of which are fresh and locally sourced:

  • 3 Courses – £17.50
  • 2 Courses – £15.00

You’ll continue to receive complimentary hot and soft drinks with your meal and a great service from the ChangeKitchen Team. You can also continue to bring your own alcohol.

May Pop-Up – Friday 17 May – Hold the date

Our May Pop-Up is just around the corner – Friday 17 May to be precise!

Thanks to those of you who were able to make it to last months pop-up and for those of you that couldn’t make it,  it would be great to see you  for a taste of Spring this May!

We know we’ve enticed you with asparagus before, but we believe with the recent onset of warmer weather, it could be a reality this time around!

May’s menu promises to be lighter, while offering flavours that will tickle the tastebuds – I hear wild garlic is on the menu!

We’ll reveal more next week.

CK April Pop Up Menu Revealed!

Birgit has come up with a cracking spring menu for our Pop Up this Friday 19 April 2013 – 7pm – 10pm

CK’s April menu includes:

  • Cream of broccoli or cream of asparagus soup (only if we can get UK or European non air freighted asparagus!)
  • CK roasted veg, grilled polenta and roasted oyster mushrooms
  • Beany wraps
  • Crudites and wraps

Spring Pop Ups Announced! Hold the dates…..

We can now announce  our Pop Up dates for the Spring (we know it’s snowing currently, but spring is on its way…….).

Please put the dates in your phone, tablet or your trusted paper diary.

The CK Pop Ups happen every 3rd Friday of the month – the following dates are confirmed:

  • Friday 19 April
  • Friday 17 May
  • Friday 21 June

The pop ups happen at our HQ in Pershore Street from 7pm – 10pm and you can bring your own.

If you can’t wait until April,  you can also catch ChangeKitchen at Flatpack Festival across Birmingham between 21 -31 March 2013 - we are the official caterer for the event!

CK Pop Up Menu now available – with a nod to the recent temperatures………

We don’t know about you, but at CK headquarters the sudden return to winter this week means we can squeeze in one more cosy, comforting menu before the asparagus arrives in April!

You won’t be disappointed – we promise.

This Friday’s menu includes:

  • Starters include – Thai flavoured butternut squash soup (1 of 2 choices)
  • Mains include – CK grilled roast veg polenta served with roasted mushrooms (1 of 4 choices)
  • Side dishes include – Bavarian green been salad (1 of 6 choices)
  • Desserts include – Apple strudel and cream (1 of 4 choices)

CK ‘Spring is almost Sprung’ Pop Up – Friday 15th March 2013

It’s March and spring is almost on its way!

Why not celebrate the eve of longer days with ChangeKitchen’s ‘Spring is almost Sprung’ Pop Up on Friday 15 March.

We’ll have a delicious vegetarian and vegan menu (more to be revealed next week….) influenced by the  oncoming season, that will tempt your tastebuds into thinking warmer days are just around the corner!

Our pop ups have been growing in popularity since last year, with last month’s pop-up our busiest yet!

So do book early if you don’t want to miss out.

The menu includes non-alcoholic hot and cold drinks.

And of course you can bring your own – corkscrew provided by ChangeKitchen!

CK Post Valentines Pop Up – Friday 15th February 2013

It’s February!

So, time to book your table at our monthly pop-up this month.

Our pop-up on Friday 15th February, will be an antidote to any Valentines’ day excesses!

Here’s a sneek peek at the menu, which includes:

A cleansing, and delicious seasonal soup starter followed by

our special CK bangers and mash accompanied with yummy winter salads.

 

As always, our menu is inclusive and caters for vegetarian, vegan and gluten free palates in equal measure.

The evening also includes non-alcoholic hot and cold drinks.

And of course you can bring your own – corkscrew provided by Changekitchen!

CK Pop Up Cafe at Garden Organic (Ryton) Potato Day on 26th & 27th January 2013

We all love potatoes, whether that’s growing, eating or cooking them!

ChangeKitchen is no exception, and that’s why we are so pleased to announce that we are providing a potato inspired pop – up cafe at Garden Organic’s (Ryton) Potato Day on 26th January (Garden Organic members only) and 27th  January (general public) – 10-4pm.

Our delicious vegetarian menu includes:

  • Homity Pie
  • Potato and Beetroot Gratin
  • Leek and Potato Soup
  • Mediterranean Potato Salad
  • Spicy Sweet Potato Soup
  • South Indian Potato and Lentil Curry

As well as our tasty food, Potato Day at Garden Organic in Warwickshire, will give budding growers the chance to buy over 120 varieties, 40 of them organic – seed potatoes in packs or by the tuber, meaning anyone with enough space for a potato grow bag, or an entire allotment plot can get started right away. Visitors can also learn all about spuds with talks and tips from the experts.

On the public day – 29th January,  visitors can join CK friend, garden writer and TV presenter Alys Fowler among other guest experts.

CK Pop Up – Friday 18 January – CANCELLED due to the weather

Birgit and the ChangeKitchen Team have decided, due to the  weather, that tonight’s Pop Up (Friday 18 January 2013) will now be cancelled.

We’re also aware that several of our customers are now unable to attend due to treacherous driving conditions and public transport difficulties.

We will of course be holding our next Pop-Up on Friday 15 February – hopefully the weather will be kinder to us then!
