training
Dr Birgit Kehrer also shares her passion for cooking up change through an immensely popular workshop programme - designed and delivered by Birgit herself - for schools and groups, the programme covers healthy living, healthy eating, organic gardening and sustainability.
There's ‘Fork to Fork’ workshops, designed to show the link between gardening, planting and harvesting one’s own food as well as cooking and eating it. The 'Fork to Fork' sessions are an excellent way of getting (young) people more enthused about eating vegetables. Encouraging a reconnection with the growing, preparing and eating of food, participants particularly enjoy the opportunity to take part in gardening activity, the chance to exercise and simply 'being out and about' in the fresh air.
There are also ‘5 a Day on a Budget’ family learning sessions. From shopping within budget to achieve a minimum of 5 daily portions of fruit and vegetables, to ways of cooking fresh meals in less than 30 minutes. This session is delivered in a very participatory way, and is tailored to encourage knowledge and idea sharing between families, rather than simply a teacher/pupil ‘lecturing’ approach.
And finally, there are Sustainability Workshops, an introduction to issues related to sustainability, such as energy & water consumption, waste reduction and recycling. Delivered in a fun and light hearted way. For example, the 'upcycling make workshop' encourages participants to consider what is meant by waste and to go on to make a fully functioning clock out of a waste item of toy, cereal or drink packaging.
The workshops, which are always specifically tailored to the needs and circumstances of the participants, combine Birgit’s skills, experience and knowledge really well.
In addition to the workshop programme, Birgit is also available to speak to groups on creating and building successful social enterprises, her 'cooking up change' philosophy, 5 a day and meal balancing on a budget, and on the challenges of working with disadvantaged members of the community.
